Herpes
Herpes is a virus without a cure. Attacks can come back at any time although there is a treatment that makes it heal up quicker.

Nasty little facts
  • The first attack of herpes is usually the worst.
  • Within 10 days of catching it, males and females usually have a tingling sensation followed by small watery blisters in the genital or anal areas. These burst to leave painful sores, ulcers or crusts. It’s not pleasant!
  • You might experience a feverish feeling, headache, temperature, swollen glands and aching muscles.
  • The sores will heal in one to four weeks, but the infection can return at any time.
  • Many people who get herpes don't have more attacks after the first one.
  • Herpes can rear its ugly head again if you are run down, stressed or there is too much friction on the genitals from tight clothes or sex.

Genital Warts
Genital warts come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Some are flat, others are tiny and some look like the common warts you might get on your hand or foot. Genital warts are very common and spread through skin-to-skin contact. If you or your sexual partner has any warts visible in the genital area you should avoid sex until you receive treatment.

Nasty Little Facts
  • If left untreated genital warts can cause cervical cancer.
  • Genital warts can by extremely itchy.
  • Genital Warts are a viral infection, so they can keep coming back after the initial treatment.

Gonorrhea
Gonorrhea is a curable sexually transmitted disease that can infect the genital area and the mouth.

Nasty Little Facts
  • Women may have no symptoms at all – but can experience pain in the lower abdomen or unusual discharge.
  • Men might notice a thick discharge from their penises and feel burning during urination.
  • Gonorrhea can infect the throat and can cause sterility, arthritis, heart problems, and disorders of the central nervous system.
  • In women, it can cause pelvic inflammatory disease, which can lead to ectopic pregnancies, or the formation of abscesses.
  • If you give birth while infected you can pass the infection onto your baby.

HIV
If you have unprotected sex you run the risk of contracting HIV – the virus that leads to Aids.

Nasty Little Facts
  • The HIV virus is found in the blood, semen or vaginal fluid of a person. Infection takes place when these fluids pass from an infected person into the bloodstream of someone else.
  • The HIV virus attacks the blood cells that defend the body against illness – so if germs get inside the body, the infected person has no way of fighting off the infection.

Naughty boys and girls!!
